I
am captivated by light and its play on form and color. My own
compositions frequently focus on dramatic lighting and tightly
cropped formats. My work in oil is painstakingly realistic while
my pastels offer a more impressionistic style. Most of all, I
am intrigued with expressions and the unique characteristics
of each individual.
I
began creating portraits when my daughter was born; I fell in
love with her and she became my subject of choice. I used color
pencil, as the medium lent itself to the interruptions inherent
to the role of motherhood. This medium provided me with the control
necessary to include fine details and create a strong likeness.
Since
that time, I have expanded, and broadened, both my mediums and
my subject. I study constantly and intensively, reading books
and attending workshops and classes, always looking for new challenges
within this immensely fulfilling pursuit of artistic expression
through portraiture.
